Mental Health is a Priority

With such a big topic, nobody knows where to begin. One thing I know for sure we can all agree on is that a strong mind is beneficial in different ways. It helps us to focus and become the best version of ourselves. Who would say that they truly don't care about how good they feel? Some people may act that way or even explicitly say they don't care, but we don't see what happens behind closed doors. For all we know, that person might be trying their best to be on the right path. Being able to pause, think rationally, and respond is all part of mental health. Things like these is what helps us in the long run. I know from a personal standpoint, I've struggled mentally with MANY things in my life. From school, to friends, family, and even my own hobbies and interests, there's always something worth worrying about. It's so easy to tell someone "hey just stop thinking about that" or "don't worry about it too much". Although these things can help some people in some sort of way, the majority of us need different ways to cope.

Throughout my whole life, I've tried multiple different ways to distract myself from what was going on. I'd be playing video games, hanging out with friends, eating food. But, I never wanted to face the issue directly. I was avoiding it. DON'T DO THAT! One of the best things you can do is face your concerns and put it to rest once and for all because if you put it off by distracting yourself like I did, it'll come back to you eventually when you least expect it. That's when you think you world is crumbling down.

These follow things I'm about to list are just ways of helping you overcome your thoughts:

  • Meditation - link is at the bottom of my page under "Mental Health" for a really good meditation guide. Click "View More"

  • Journal your thoughts

  • Speak to someone you trust

  • Seek a licensed therapist to talk to

  • When you're all by yourself, have a conversation with yourself about what's bothering you

Some of these you might think are weird, especially the last one. No it doesn't make you a looney person if you speak to yourself. We know ourselves best. Sometimes, were able to hear our selves if we just talk about things out loud. I would know because I've done it. I've done all of these that I listed and it's changed my perspective on many things in my life. I was hesitant for the longest time to speak to a therapist. I thought that was more crazy then talking to myself haha but once I accepted that it's normal, it became a whole new ball game.

It takes A LOT of time to accept some things that are going on in your life. But it has to be accepted because that's how life moves on. We can't dwell in the past because it gets us nowhere. What we can do though is accept the present and change the future. It's such a good feeling knowing that life can work that way.

This was more of a general aspect on what I see mental health as. Later down the road I want to talk about certain experiences in my life and how they shaped me to who I am today. There's always work to be done because we live very long lives. Who we are today doesn't mean we'll be the same person tomorrow. We slowly change our views on things day by day. It's always important to remember that you know yourself best. The person that can get you through the things you are going through best is YOU.
