This title might seem simple and straight forward. When you're having an issue, just breathe for a little bit and you're sure to relax... yeahhh well sometimes it's not that simple. What about your mind/thoughts and where it wonders? How about when you're trying to relax but you're too stimulated from all the things happening around you? Something as little as someone asking you a simple question during a time of crisis can set you off...HARD! That's why you have to be mindful with your breathing and really focus on it.
Almost every night for the past two weeks, I put on a 3 minute breathing meditation video; the video is linked at the bottom of the page under "Mental Health". What I do is turn off the lights in my room, lay on the floor, spread my arms and legs out, take a few deep breaths before I start the video, then close my eyes. It guides you on what you should be thinking about and focusing on while you're take in deep breaths. Funny enough during my undergrad, I took a mock trial class and before every single "performance" we had to do, our professor made us all listen to that same video to help us relax and be confident in what were about to do. It worked tremendously!
This video I just talked about is just one example of the many ways you can really focus on your breathing and relax your mind to be in a better place. Try it at home whenever you have some free time! Just find a comfortable space, sit straight up or lay flat on your back, and start taking in deep breathes...
breathing in for 5 seconds....
breathing out for 5 seconds....
breathing in 5 seconds....
breathing out 5 seconds....
Something simple as that works like a charm.
We get stressed out about so many things and we don't even remind ourselves on when we should calm down a little bit and refocus on the most important thing, ourselves! You know yourself best and nobody else in this world can tell you otherwise. You know what you like, what you don't like, what scares you, and what makes you happy. You out of all people can for sure find your comfort place and bring back some peace to your life.
